The indwelling Holy Spirit of God is equivalent to a spiritual Wellington. He covers you with his protective cloak and ensures that your soul remains free of corruption. He guarantees you eternal life as long as you promise never to remove your protective cloak or to cause it to become irrelevant. The cloak becomes irrelevant when, despite its covering, you engage in actions that defeat its purpose. It would be similar to pouring water into your Wellington boot, yet expecting it to keep your feet warm and dry.
