RESPECT FOR AUTHORITY

The Scriptures teach that everyone should respect authority. That teaching is wholly conditioned on the fact that the authority must itself respect authority. If you respect an authority that does not itself respect authority, you are likely to be led down the wrong path.

In the United States of America, the disrespect of authority figures is rampant. Children disrespect their parents and teachers, adults disrespect their employers, and the clergy disrespect the God whom they claim to serve. You are called to respect authority only if the authority respects their authority figures, and only to the extent they do.
