When the Lord God Almighty calls us to be in his kingdom, he expects that we will remain present, and ready to do his will. He expects that we always will be in a state of readiness, always listening for his voice, always ready to obey every command. But that is not what often happens when he calls us. As occurred with the ten foolish virgins in the Bible, many of us become distracted, we begin to think of all the things left undone, the commitments we had made that have not yet been fulfilled, the time and the delay in God's appearing, as well as the possibility that we heard a different voice, calling us into a different kingdom.
But when the time comes for the chosen to be called, it is only those who did not become distracted who will be called. It is those who maintained their focus, who refused to hear the devil's arguments to the contrary, who defied the call to turn our attention elsewhere. It is those who fixed their eyes on Jesus who will be chosen. It is those who remained stalwart. Queen Elizabeth
