The idea that one must present a fool-proof argument as to why one is entitled to certain rights and privileges negates the long-held notion that certain rights and privileges enure to everyone, irrespective of race, sex, creed, color, or religion. It is the perpetrator who desires to denigrate these rights and privileges who first must prove a justifiable cause, and until he does, no defense of those rights and privileges is necessary nor should be required. Americans treasure the right to life and liberty, as well as the pursuit of happiness as a privilege, but until we see these rights and privileges as being available to all and for all, we should surrender the misconception that they can be truly available to anyone.
