The idea of having to illuminate the realm of the spirit seems contrary to what was promised when the Scriptures stated that the God of heaven sees all and knows all. If he sees all, why do we need to illuminate things? God sees all and knows all only to the extent that we want him to see and know. If we desire to keep our hearts covered, he will never see, and will never know what is in our heart until judgment day arrives. Nor will we have an opportunity to have our hearts exposed so that we can be transformed.
The role of the Holy Spirit is that of transformation, and in order for him to complete his role, we must be willing to expose our hearts to him. We expose our hearts when we openly and unabashedly tell him what we're thinking and how we're feeling in any given situation. We cannot become transformed if we are intent on living behind an iron curtain fueled by greed, lust, envy, hate and immorality. Nor can we hope to enter into eternal life. We can have life weighted down by sin, or we can live freely and unencumbered.
