If you are the owner of a confederate flag, you probably have not been moved by the circumstances of George Floyd's murder, or by the demonstrations that have rocked cities across the nation. If your town square boasts a confederate statue, you are not likely to respond genuinely to the calls for police reform.
Drawing a swastika on the outside wall of your house is a federal offense that is punishable as a hate crime. Yet, flying the confederate flag, or placing a confederate statue in the town square, or anywhere in your city, is deemed to be a protected right. If America wants change, it must demand change from the ground up, otherwise none of the changes instituted will be sustainable.
