Animal rights activists often speak about the rights of animals. Animals are alive, but being alive does not mean that one has rights and privileges in the same manner that human beings have rights and privileges. When one is alive, one is entitled to be free of pain, and to have one's basic needs met, in contrast to humans who are imbued with certain inalienable rights.
Being cut in any manner always engenders a painful experience in both the physical realm, as well as in the spirit realm, whether one is human, animal, or plant. Thus, when an animal is to be slaughtered for purposes of consumption, the spirit must first be removed from the body by draining the lifeblood through an incision in the neck. When the spirit does not experience the trauma of being slaughtered, the animal can be safely consumed. Every bird or animal killed for consumption should be killed in this manner, by first draining its lifeblood.
