The command that we should adhere to biblical precepts is not a novel concept, but one that has existed for as long as our consciousness of God has existed. What is novel is the notion that we can be perfect as God is perfect, that our striving for perfection can become effortless. There is no inherent corruption in our being that renders futile any desire for perfection. When we understand that all imperfection comes from the devil himself, we also come to realize that as long as we resist his every advance, we can maintain a godly perfection and a godly stance.
Our resistance must entail a dogged determination and an unchangeable and irreversible mandate to him to keep his distance. If we beckon him to advance only an inch, he will advance for three feet. If we listen for one moment, he will cajole and convince with a tongue steeped in the oil of deception. We cannot accept or tolerate anything he says, does or aspires to do, yet expect to maintain our safety net. In our mind, as well as in our heart, resisting him must mean erecting a ten-foot thick, sound proof steel wall that blocks his every advance and his every maneuver. However silver-tongued Satan may appear to be, the only truth that exists is that he intends to kill, steal and destroy. He will lead you to believe that he seeks to elevate and advance you to a higher, more profound and more meaningful level of existence. What he truly desires is to destroy you and to appoint a demon from hell to take your place on the earth. He wants to bring hell and it occupants into the earth realm.
