We like to speak of freedom in the context of rights and interests. However, true freedom comes with a stupendous capacity for change and genuine transformation. Very few individuals, if any, have achieved that level of freedom. They may have become billionaires, yet struggled with illnesses, divorces and other issues. Or they may have been happily married for decades, yet barely survived financially. Or perhaps they were spiritual gurus, yet suffered from incapacitating migraine headaches or other chronic conditions for their entire lives. We rarely see, hear or know of the dark side of their lives. We see only the glitter, and we aspire to reach the same heights at which they had arrived.
Genuine freedom, however, is all-encompassing. It touches every area of your life. No part is left that is not subject to instant transformation at the mere thought of it. That is the freedom God offers, but our feeble minds can barely imagine it, let alone accept and embrace it. We are either single-minded in our fierce pursuit of wealth, fame, fitness or other goals, or we resign ourselves to a moderately conscious existence. God wants you to know that if you are confined to a hospital bed, or are joined to an oxygen machine, you are not free. If there is any genuine desire of your heart that you have come to believe is unreachable, you are not free. The freedom that God gives comes with a price--surrender--but in that surrender is found a freedom that the world has never before seen or known.
